  • bible studies & Adult Learning

    • Bible Study with Pastor Chuck meets on Saturday mornings. Bible Study welcomes everyone who is seeking to strengthen their faith through studying the Scriptures for the upcoming Sunday Worship. No previous Bible study or expertise in studying Scripture is necessary. Just bring yourself and your questions. We always spend time relating the Scriptures to our Real life challenges and joys. We meet from 8:30 - 9:45 am.  Any questions? Feel free to give Pastor Chuck a call at 847-254-1948.
    • Christian Basics is a 5 week course offered twice a year for those wishing to baptize a child or be baptized themselves, prepare for Holy Communion or Confirmation as an adult, become a member of Messiah, or learn more about the faith we share.
    • Deborah Circle is a women's Bible study & fellowship that meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 9:30 am in the Luther Center. (Does not meet during the summer months June, July, & August)
    • Serendipity Bible Study meets the 2nd & 4th Wednesdays of the month at 9:30 am in the Luther Center.
    • Single Women in Ministry (SWIM) is fellowship & Bible study for single women and meets twice a month around town
  • parish life ministries

    • Circle of Friends Book Club meets twice a month on Friday mornings in the homes of book club members.
    • Christian Meditation - currently on hiatus.
    • Hatha Yoga - 11:30 AM Tuesdays in the Luther Center.
    • Hospitality Ministry - coordinates Sunday morning refreshments, church luncheons, and other special events.
    • Tai Chi - currently on hiatus.


  • outreach, Service & Justice Ministries

    • Community Meals - Messiah hosts FREE community meals once a month, open to everyone, in partnership with the organization The Community Meal - Barrington.
    • Good Samaritan coordinates a variety of projects throughout the year to help people in need, both locally and internationally.
    • Joyful Outreach (JOM) participates in and supports events & activities at Messiah and in the community that fulfill our Christian message.
    • PADS (Providing Advocacy, Dignity & Shelter) - Messiah's volunteers partner with The Chapel - Grayslake to support Lake County homeless men on Saturday nights from October - April.
    • Service & Mission provides mission trip and inter-generational service opportunities throughout the year.
    • Social Justice serves our community through social justice initiatives.
  • Caring ministries

    • 12 Step Support Groups - Messiah provides meeting space for several A.A. / Al-Anon groups throughout the week.  
    • Prayer Ministry - Meets most Thursdays in the Luther Center to pray for the needs of our congregation.  If you have a prayer request, please call the church office.
    • Quilt & Prayer Shawl Ministry - Quilters meet once a month (and sometimes more!) to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief.  Knitted or crocheted Prayer Shawls are made while petitioning and praying to God, and given to those going through an illness or difficult time.
    • Stephen Ministry - Stephen Ministers are laypeople trained to provide confidential one-on-one care to people experiencing a difficult time in life, such as grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, relocation, or separation due to military deployment.
  • ...And Everything Else

    • Health & Wellness Team meets throughout the year to advise the Messiah community on health related guidance. This team also manages Messiah's medical lending closet, located in the Gathering Place. Each fall, H&W runs a flu-shot clinic in partnership with a local pharmacy team. Additional events are planned as needed throughout the year.
    • Outdoor Beautification Team keeps our outdoor landscaping looking lovely!
    • Property, Building & Construction Team helps with small repairs & projects around the church.
    • Welcome Center - Volunteers are scheduled to arrive a little before the service and stay a little after to answer questions from visitors.
    • Worship Assistants - we always need greeters, scripture readers, ushers, acolytes, and other worship assistants!
